DeGray Lake Resort State Park 2027 State Park Entrance Road Bismarck, Arkansas 71929 501-865-5851
Welcome to Belle! All of our classes, meals, quilt shop, show and tell, etc will be held at DeGray Lodge. There are also camping options on the grounds if that works for you. For lodge reservations, please call the number above and be sure to ask for our Southern Belle group rate. DeGray will be undergoing some renovations soon, reducing the number of guest rooms that will be available during our stay. Please book your room ASAP to ensure that you can stay at the lodge.
Belles! It's almost time for our Fall retreat!! Belle pins and charms are ordered. Meals have been planned. Joan and I are making our last tweaks on overall content and lesson plans.
Please plan on bringing your laptops. Although we do not allow students to work on laptops during class, most students enjoy having them to review classes and practice in SAM after hours.
Our handout booklet is full of information and has room for taking your own notes too, so you shouldn't need to bring an extra notebook.
Most students bring a camera to capture the memories of the week. Most everyone allows photos of their quilts for inspiration. We will also take and post photos of the happenings on line.
Show and Tell is always a special time, so don't be shy about bringing something to share on Friday evening.
I have not heard from anyone in this group who is planning to bring a completed Rescue project, but I will share what I know about the process, slides of the before and after quilts from both weeks of spring Belle, and my latest quilt.
Kay and Mark Elliott always bring a full quilt shop with them when they come, so be sure to bring your shopping list (plus some extra room to take it all home with you!)
Mark does an excellent job in explaining how to navigate around your computer files and folders, saving and retrieving your Statler information and patterns. And his maintenance class is also full of valuable information for keeping your machine running in top form. You can still sign up for these classes, on line, or in person at registration.
We have added a new class to our line up this fall so you will be the first to hear "On the Go". A look at how you can use your iPad or cell phone to keep up with information important to your Statler/business life.
Our Saturday evening program will be a lecture on Quilting for Show.
I don't know what to predict as far a weather is concerned. Spring is always beautiful with lots of sunshine and flowers. I'm guessing September will still be summerish in Arkansas, but check the forecast and bring appropriate variety of clothing to suit you. Dress is casual, relaxed, comfortable. As with any conference center, room temperature can fluxuate. Bringing a sweater or jacket to class is always a good idea.
Our meals will be buffet-style and there is always a good variety and plenty to eat. It is too late at this point to cancel guest meals, but if you need a special diet we haven't heard about, please tell us asap. Feel free to bring snacks and beverages of your choice to keep in your room.
Our registration table will be set up in the hotel lobby. We will begin at 3:30 pm. When you check in with us, you will receive a handout booklet with our schedule and workshop information, a goodie bag with some nice surprises, and a name tag so everyone will know who you are.

Our Belle pins have been a favorite item and we are offering them again this year, along with a two-sided charm that can be added to a Pandora bracelet, necklace, or any other way you might want to show you are a Belle.
Pins and charms must be ordered and paid for in advance; they will be waiting for you at our registration table when you check in. We do not mail pins, but if you know a Belle who cannot be here this year, you may order one for her and pick it up.
Both of these were made as suggestions from our Belles and they sold very quickly at our Spring retreat. We're hoping you love them as much as we love all our Belles. Our last date to place the order to have them made is August 1.
Our breakfast round tables are a time to talk with your fellow students about every day issues like batting choices, advertising, loading options, etc. Ask questions, share your experiences, find solutions to common problems, and get to know each other. This is always a very popular part of our retreats. If you have suggestions for discussion topics, please send them to me and I'll add them to our list.
Machine Maintenance and Computer Basics with Mark Elliott Maintenance and Computer Basics are scheduled for Thursday evening, after Meet and Greet. These are optional classes. Each will last about 60-90 minutes. These are important classes for beginners, but open to all. If you are interested in one or both, Please use the link here to register and pay. Menus and Special Diets
We always give a list of your special dietary needs to the kitchen manager, so the staff will be prepared. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to talk with them each morning to be sure you will be taken care of. We want our Belles to be healthy and happy.
Designer Policy We welcome designers to join us at Southern Belle as students. Designers will be introduced during our reception and may put a quarter page B&W advertisement/discount coupon in our handout booklet at no charge.
Every year we have a complaint or two about distractions or interruptions during class time. In order to provide for a better learning environment for everyone during class, we ask that you keep your personal conversations to a minimum so that students sitting near you can hear the presentations. Everyone wants to see and hear what is being offered and we want your attention, too.
We understand that no one travels these days without a cell phone to keep in touch with family. And, we do encourage you to bring your laptops for use after class to practice new techniques or to study pattern choices and share ideas with others.
But, please, no use of cell phones or laptops during class time. If there is a need for an emergency phone conversation, please take it out to the hallway. And due to safety concerns with laptop cords, we ask you to schedule your laptop time after class. Also, please be careful about the use of hairspray, perfume, and other strong scents that may bother others in the room. Every year we have one or two students who are allergic or sensitive.
We are looking forward to seeing how beautiful DeGray State Park is in the Fall. Thank You for joining us and we'll see you soon! Anita & Joan
